Job Description:
Position Summary Provide special education students with
learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill
their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social
growth. Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and
instructional materials to meet individual student ability levels.
Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant setting
as assigned. Position Requirements Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Valid Texas
teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements or required
training for the subject and level assigned Demonstrated competency
in the core academic subject area assigned Experience At least one
year of student teaching or an approved internship Special
Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of the needs of students with
disabilities in the assigned area Knowledge of the Admission,
Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process Knowledge of
Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, goal setting,
and implementation General knowledge of curriculum and
instructional practices Physical Demands Maintain emotional control
under stress Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and
pushing Ability to move classroom materials such as small stacks of
textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other instructional items
Duties and Responsibilities Conduct ongoing assessments of student
progress using formal and informal measures Collaborate with
parents, students, and staff to develop and implement IEPs through
the ARD process for each assigned student Create a classroom
environment that supports learning and is appropriate for students’
physical, social, and emotional development Establish and maintain
open communication with parents, students, campus administrators,
and instructional staff through regular conferences and
collaboration SPED1
